TD-SCDMA Update

- China Business News reported that China Mobile plans to make two key deployments in China's TD-SCDMA trials. First, China Mobile plans to incorporate mobile TV business based on the MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) standard into the TD-SCDMA network. In addition, the company seeks to enhance the TD-SCDMA network with HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) functionality, also known as 3.5G.

- According to China Business News, the Chinese MII (Ministry of Information Industry) plans to submit China's TD-SCDMA-based 4G standard to the ITU (International Telecommunication Union). According to the same report, the MII has set up an R&D team in charge of the 4G standard and preparations for the application to the ITU.

- SIM Technology, a Chinese developer of mobile phone and wireless communication module solutions, recently announced a strategic partnership with Korea-based SK Telecom. The two companies aim to develop TD-SCDMA-based solutions for wireless terminal applications.
